Today, the FCC votes on Internet regulations that would mandate that companies treat all kind of Web content equally — though as they are now, the rules would not apply to wireless data. Venture capitalist and former California State Controller Steve Westly explained why the net neutrality proposal announced by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski is a must-have. (CNN and Fortune)

  • The SEC is investigating former HP CEO Mark Hurd, including whether he passed along information about HP’s $13.9 billion acquisition of Electronic Data Systems Corp. to former event hostess Jodie Fisher in 2008 before the deal was even announced. (Wall Street Journal)
  • According to Mobile Review’s Eldar Murtazin, Nokia is rumored to be in talks with Microsoft to create a line of Nokia smartphones that would run the recently-introduced Windows Phone 7 OS. Murtazin called the move “a desperate measure for both companies.” (PCMag)
  • Hulu reportedly put its ambitions for an initial public offering (IPO) on hold. In the meantime, the streaming video service may look at other ways to make money, including new subscription plans beyond its Hulu Plus premium plan. (Wall Street Journal)
  • Google Voice users will be able to continue making calls to the U.S. and Canada for free during all of 2011. (Fortune)
  • Groupon has a new CFO, Jason Child, who served as finance chief of  Amazon and worked with the e-commerce company for 12 years. (Tech Trader Daily)
  • AOL acquired personal profile startup About.Me, which launched just four days ago. Though terms of the acquisition weren’t announced, AOL will integrate About.Me into the consumer applications group, run by Brad Garlinghouse. (TechCrunch)
  • Google’s User Experience Lead, Paul Adams, is leaving the company for Facebook and starts at the social network next month. Adams had worked on the user experience team for over four years. (TechCrunch)
  • Apple released the Mac application iAd Producer, which will let advertisers create graphic and motion-rich iAds for iOS devices with features like cover flows, image carousels, and grids. (9 to 5 Mac)
  • Steve Jobs came in fourth on Chief Executive’s “Top 10 Wealth Creators” list, below Priceline’s Jeffrey Boyd (1st), Aflac’s Daniel Amos (2nd), and Federated Investors’ Christopher Donahue (3rd). (Computerworld)
  • eBay acquired “Germany’s largest online shopping hub” brands4friends for $200 million in hopes of bolstering its position as an online destination in Europe. (AllThingsD)
  • Wholesale retailer Sam’s club is selling iPhone 4s with contracts for $147 until Christmas. Get ’em while you can! (Engadget)
  • Motorola posted a sly teaser alluding to the upcoming Android tablet Andy Rubin may have shown off at AllThingsD’s mobile conference earlier this month. Definitely worth watching for the jabs the company takes at previous “tablets,” including the Rosetta Stone. (9 to 5 Mac)
