• Nokia’s market share shrank 31% over the last three months due in no small part to the huge success of the iPhone and Android devices. Net income fell to 745 million euros ($1.02 billion) from 948 million euros, a year earlier. “Nokia faces some significant challenges in our competitiveness and our execution,” Elop said in the company’s earnings statement today. “The industry changed and now it’s time for Nokia to change faster.” Its shares fell 8.7% as a result. • Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook fan page was hacked. One user updated the page with a grammatically-incorrect status that called for the social network to become a “social business” with some help from user investments. Facebook attributed the issue to a bug. (BBC News)
• Skype won’t go public until the second half of the year, despite investor expectations that the Internet phone company would go public earlier. (Wall Street Journal)
• Netflix, which added 7.7 million subscribers last year and passed the 20 million milestone, is reportedly knee-deep in the process of “extensive Facebook integration,” a big step for the online video distribution site which until now, has not featured any significant social media features. AllThingsD speculated such integration would improve Netflix’s movie recommendations and help users share their personal viewing history in their news feed as well as recommend videos to friends.
