Finally, you can now ramble on in your direct messages on Twitter.

The microblogging service said on Wednesday that at long last, it is removing the 140-character limit on its private messaging feature. The company first hinted at the impending liberation of the direct message back in June.

To be clear: public tweets are still limited to 140 characters, and Twitter doesn’t appear to have any intention of changing that, so you should continue the upkeep of your vowel-less and at times grammatically incorrect writing.

Twitter has already begun to roll out the update across its Android and iOS app, on the Web, TweetDeck, and its Mac desktop app. The company also advises users to make sure they update their apps to the latest version to get the new capability as soon as possible. It will continue to roll out the change worldwide in the coming weeks.
