As Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina rises in the polls, there has been growing discussion of her track record as CEO of Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) and, to a lesser extent, her prior role as president of telecom hardware maker Lucent Technologies (which spun out of AT&T during her time there).
One person we have not heard from, however, is Rich McGinn, who was Fiorina’s boss at Lucent. And it doesn’t seem like we’re going to.
Fortune reached out earlier this week to McGinn, who currently helps lead a private investment firm, to ask for his reflections on Fiorina’s performance at Lucent, but he demurred.
“I can certainly understand your interest in learning more about Carly’s record of work and her past in general,” wrote McGinn, who was fired from Lucent after Fiorina left for HP, but before an accounting scandal emerged. “Over time, I have rejected the requests to make comments about Carly. I think it is best to maintain that posture… and let the political process play out.”
