Lincoln Chafee, the former Governor and Senator from Rhode Island, announced Friday morning that he would withdraw from the race for the nomination of the Democratic Party for president.
Chafee failed to get much attention for his campaign, as he barely registered in polls and drew minimal fundraising support. In fact, the Republican-turned-Democrat had only 10 major campaign donors , including himself. He raised just $15,000 over all, a total that NPR argued, “would have been an embarrassing number for a state legislative candidate or a city council candidate in a major city.”
The one memorable thing about Chafee’s campaign? His bold call to move the U.S. to the metric system. Perhaps he should have thrown his hat in for a seat in the Canadian parliament instead.
