Twitter’s (TWTR) micro-blogging service suffered a major outage Tuesday, leaving the chattering classes of Europe and Asia at a loss for what to do for well over an hour.
First reports of the outage started to crop up around 0320 Eastern Time. The Tweetdeck interface only informed users that “Something is technically wrong”, although The Guardian reported that error messages from its Application Programming Interface warned that the network was both “over capacity” and registering an “internal error.” Twitter’s status board updated around 0400 ET with the following message:
There was no obvious news-related trigger for the failure (unless the world is actually a lot more interested in China’s worst GDP figures in 25 years or The Eagles than we thought).
The Guardian reported that some users were able to regain access to the network within an hour. However, some Twitter-related interfaces remained down and were still unavailable over an hour and a half after the initial network failure. Most issues appeared to be resolved by 0500 ET.
