Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are ahead of their respective opponents by a wide margin before voting begins in some 11 states on Tuesday, according to a new national poll.
A CNN/ORC poll released Monday found Trump had solidified his lead over his opponents in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, while Clinton is ahead nearly 20 points in the Democratic race.
Trump has more supporters than his four opponents combined, with 49% of voters choosing the billionaire, 16% Marco Rubio, 15% Ted Cruz, 10% Ben Carson and 6% John Kasich—as the Republican field continues to narrow.
Support for Trump seems to have engaged the GOP electorate, as nearly 8 in 10 of his supporters say they are more enthusiastic about voting this year, compared to 39% of all Republicans.
For the Democrats, Clinton beats Bernie Sanders 55% to 38%, solidifying her front-runner status after an embattled January.
Clinton’s lead is dependent on a large advantage over Sanders among women, older voters, Democrats and moderates, while men, younger voters, independents and liberals remain split between the two.
The CNN/ORC poll was conducted Feb. 24-27 by telephone with a random sample of 1,001 voters nationally. The margin of error is plus or minus five points.
