Google's New Office Plans Look Like A Big Tent

The engineers at Google might be heading back to summer camp.

The company just revealed plans for a new office building that are up for approval with the city of Mountain View, Calif., and they look a little more like a tent city than an office park.

The new plans come after Google lost out to LinkedIn on a bid for more space in Mountain View last year, the Silicon Valley Business Journal reported. That plan would have given Google enough turf for a massive, glass campus with modular, moveable buildings.

But Google’s latest design, for a single two-level complex, is a bit more campy.

In documents released to the city, Google describes the “canopies” over the building would help regulate temperature, air quality, and sound at the new office.

The plan also includes a green path weaving through the middle of the nearly 600,000 square foot complex along with a garden that would hide the utility plant.
