Pregnancy tests are going digital.
The maker of First Response brand pregnancy tests, Church & Dwight (CHURCH-DWIGHT), has created the first ever Bluetooth-enabled pregnancy test, Drug Store News reports. The company first unveiled it at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year.
The Pregnancy PRO digital pregnancy test works in conjunction with the First Response app, which can be downloaded on the user’s Android or iOS mobile device. In explaining the need for a digital pregnancy test Stacey Feldman, Church & Dwight’s vice president of marketing, said, “When seeking answers to questions, millennial mothers turn to their smartphones.”
The device and corresponding app provide the potential new mother with content to help her through her “pregnancy journey.” During the three minutes between the time she takes the test and receives the results, the app offers her three options to help mitigate anxiety—Calm Me, Educate Me, and Entertain Me. Calm Me offers relaxing visuals, including ocean waves; Educate Me provides informative content, like quizzes about fertility and conception; and Entertain Me shows her videos of playful animals and other similarly distracting things.
After she receives her results, the app then suggests some next steps based on data that she inserted prior to taking the test. This can include information about fitness and nutrition during pregnancy or questions she should ask her doctor.
The digital pregnancy tests can now be purchased at retailers nationwide. Suggested prices range from $14.99 to $21.99.
