This summer, a surprising number of adults will be doing something that most people don’t do after their teens: Going to summer camp. A growing number of camps have popped up, catering to grown ups who want to get away, live out their childhood passions or just unplug for a weekend.
Dream-catcher making, pizza-baking, archery and star gazing are just a few of the numerous activities offered at Camp Grounded — a series of weekend summer getaway camps designed for adults. Campers must deposit all their electronic devices (phones, laptops, digital cameras, watches, car keys, iPads) during check-in. The idea is “reconnecting by disconnecting,” a motto of Digital Detox, the nonprofit that runs Camp Grounded. Campers are immersed in workshops (called “play-shops”), talent shows, relaxation time and themed activities.
