As of July 27 the new menu item will be available at almost 240 locations in the Bay Area, according to a press release. McDonald’s (MCD) began testing the fries at just a handful of locations earlier this year. They’re made by mixing the chain’s iconic French fries with a puree that includes chopped garlic, olive oil, parmesan cheese, parsley, and salt. The garlic is sourced locally from an area about 80 miles south of San Francisco known as the “Garlic Capital of the World.”

The garlic fries have been so popular that McDonald’s ran out less than two weeks after starting to offer them and just four days after the company’s official announcement, likely making it the fast food giant’s most successful test ever. It’s uncertain whether or not they’ll be extended beyond the Bay Area at any point, though a statement from Nick Vargis, McDonald’s co-op president of the San Francisco Bay Area, doesn’t sound too hopeful.

“McDonald’s has a long standing history of creativity and innovation. McDonald’s Gilroy Garlic Fries is a unique, regional offering that is tailored to Bay Area tastes,” Vargis said in the press release. “The innovation of this new menu item is due in large part to our local franchisees and their commitment to providing food our customers want.”
