Over the past few years, Toyota (TM) has faced massive recalls, increased competition in the hybrid car market, and new challenges from electric car company, Tesla Motors (TSLA).
But while Toyota’s overall unit sales dipped from 2014, the Japanese automaker still managed to sell 10.1 million vehicles in 2015, more than any other Japanese car company. It also generated more than $260 billion in revenue over its most recent fiscal year, up 4.3% from the previous year. As a result, Toyota jumped one spot in this year’s Fortune Global 500 rankings, rising to 8th, just behind the only automaker ranked higher on the list, Germany’s Volkswagen (VLKPF).
