Republican National Convention: Day One
CLEVELAND, OH - JULY 18: Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump enters the stage to introduce his wife Melania on the first day of the Republican National Convention on July 18, 2016 at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. An estimated 50,000 people are expected in Cleveland, including hundreds of protesters and members of the media. The four-day Republican National Convention kicks off on July 18. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump isn’t sitting quiet on the sidelines while the Democrats nominate former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Over the last two days, Trump has been using Twitter (TWTR)—one of his preferred services for making announcements and sharing his opinions—to attack Clinton and her supporters, take aim at the media, and even try to lure in Senator Bernie Sanders supporters.

Trump kicked things off talking about the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Monday, when he argued that Clinton had “betrayed Bernie voters.” He subsequently launched several tweets all aimed at the issues about which Sanders voters, who have loudly protested about what they believe has been a rigged system in light of the Wikileaks DNC email dump, care.

“Sad to watch Bernie Sanders abandon his revolution,” Trump tweeted on Monday. “We welcome all voters who want to fix our rigged system and bring back our jobs.”

But he was far from done. Trump soon turned his attention on Monday to Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), whom he’s has referred to as “Pocahontas” over the last few months. Trump tweeted that Warren “misrepresented” him and claimed that while she was speaking “glowingly” about Clinton, in truth, she actually “hated” the Democratic nominee.

“Pocahontas bombed last night,” Trump said in a tweet on Tuesday morning. “Sad to watch.”

Hopefully the violent and vicious killing by ISIS of a beloved French priest is causing people to start thinking rationally. Get tough!

For a while on Tuesday, Trump was rather quiet about the DNC, using his Twitter account to promote events in Ohio and trumpet his lead in polls in both Ohio and New Hampshire. But it wasn’t long before he again turned to the convention, calling Clinton “both incompetent and a liar” and arguing that the Democrats are unwilling to “talk about ISIS because Hillary’s foreign interventions unleashed ISIS.”

He also swiped at claims made by the Clinton campaign that Russia might have been behind the hack on the DNC’s email to support Trump, saying that it was “crazy” and an attempt to “deflect the horror and stupidity of the Wikileaks disaster.” He added that he has “ZERO investments in Russia.”

Many of Bernie's supporters have left the arena. Did Bernie go home and go to sleep?

Trump, who has long been active on his Twitter account, has been unwilling to stay silent this week. Historically, opposing candidates will often use the week their competitors are holding a convention to relax and raise cash for what promises to be a difficult general election. Along the way, they largely stay out of the spotlight to fight another day.

But Trump, who has proven to be among the most unconventional candidates in recent times, has done nothing of the sort. In addition to tweeting direct responses to what he’s hearing on the DNC floor—including chastising the Democratic party for having an unattractive stage and a “small” flag—he plans to hold an “Ask Me Anything” on Reddit on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. EDT. The move is a not-so-subtle attempt to steal attention from the DNC, as well as President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, both of whom are slated to speak tonight.

For more about Donald Trump and the DNC, watch:

Trying to take some wind out of Presidential sails is nothing new for Trump. He described former President Bill Clinton, who spoke at the DNC on Tuesday night, as “highly overrated.” This morning, he called the sitting Vice President “not very bright” after claiming that Biden had said Trump wanted to “carpet bomb” the enemy—something Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) had said on the campaign trail.

Yet no Trump Twitter attack would be complete without mention of “Crooked Hillary.” Since late on Tuesday night, Trump has included “Crooked Hillary,” the name he has given his opponent, several times in tweets, arguing that she “wants to flood our country with Syrian immigrants that we know little or nothing about.” He also referenced Clinton in tweets about the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement that Trump claims, his competitor supports and he will not approve.

Ultimately, though, he just wants you to know that he really doesn’t like what he’s seeing at the convention.

I hate to say it, but the Republican Convention was far more interesting (with a much more beautiful set) than the Democratic Convention!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 27, 2016

“The Democratic Convention has paid ZERO respect to the great police and law enforcement professionals of our country,” he tweeted. No recognition – SAD!”

And there are still two days left.
