Fast food giant McDonald’s is to begin testing out delivery service in partnership with UberEATS – but only those living in Orlando, Tampa and Miami will be eligible for it.
According to Business Insider, nearly 200 restaurant across the three Florida cities will start delivering food to people’s doors from January 2017. The company hopes to roll out worldwide mobile ordering by 2018, starting with leading markets including the U.S., Australia, Canada, France and the U.K. next year.
Similar chains including Taco Bell, Chick-fil-A, Starbucks and Domino’s have seen an increase in sales and consumer engagement since launching their mobile apps, which offer order-to-pay options and loyalty programs, CNBC reports.
McDonald’s, which already delivers through third-party delivery companies like DoorDash and Postmates, is expected to have as many as 25,000 restaurants included on the upcoming app. Customers will also be able to order food on the app and pick it up from the restaurant themselves.
Last month, executives said McDonalds’ U.S. restaurants would be updated with self-service kiosk ordering, mobile payments, “smart” menu boards, custom sandwiches and table service.
