Last week, reports surfaced that Tillerson was going to skip the meeting of 28 NATO so that he could visit Russia instead —flaming fears that the U.S. would begin leaning away from its traditional allies, according to Reuters.

But on Monday, acting State Department spokes Mark Toner said the meeting was back on.

Tillerson will now meet with the council Friday in Brussels instead of next week, when the meeting was originally scheduled. Rescheduling a NATO meeting is no small feat as it requires all 28 member countries to agree, Reuters reported.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized the organization, calling it “obsolete” and urging other countries to bolster their military spending.
