Gap Inc. has asked its corporate employees who live near offices to commute in more frequently with the aim of being back all week by this fall.

Staff members began coming into the office more often this month, the San Francisco-based clothing retailer said in a statement to Bloomberg News.

“Creativity thrives on in-person collaboration,” the company said, and the move is “an effort to foster an even stronger community across Gap Inc.” Ultimately, Gap has a “goal of being back in the office five days a week by the fall.”

The news was first reported by the San Francisco Business Times.

Other companies, including Major League Baseball, Toyota and JPMorgan are asking the same of their employees, either bringing staff back every day or increasing the number of work days in the office. Businesses have said that having workers in the office more will promote greater collaboration and mentoring.
