Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, Fifth Third Bank is the 18th-largest bank in the U.S. It operates over 1,000 branches in 12 states, offering a full-service banking experience with free checking accounts, savings, certificates of deposit (CDs), credit cards, various loans, and more.

The bank is not a one-size-fits all, however. Its savings and CD APYs are largely uncompetitive, and its physical locations are nonexistent in the western half of the country. Here’s what you need to know about banking with Fifth Third.

All rates and fees are current as of Dec. 4, 2025, and are subject to change.

  • Who is Fifth Third Bank good for?

If you live in an area where Fifth Third operates brick-and-mortar locations, this bank can be a great option for those looking for an in-person experience. You’ll likely be able to do all of your banking in one place thanks to the wide variety of accounts. Fifth Third also has great overdraft protection, including an extended 24 hours to correct overdrafts before charging a fee.

Who shouldn’t use Fifth Third Bank?

Those who live outside of Fifth Third’s service area will need to look elsewhere, as you’ll be ineligible to open an account. Fifth Third operates around the East Coast and Midwest exclusively, from Michigan to Illinois to Florida.

Even if you do live near a branch, Fifth Third Bank doesn’t offer many noteworthy APYs on most of its savings accounts. It’s a subpar destination for your excess funds.

    Pros

    • Fee-free checking
    • Full-service financial institution
    • Customer-friendly overdraft protection policies

    Cons

    • Low APY for savings, CDs, and money market accounts
    • Must live in a service area to open an account online
    • Promotional CDs require considerable minimum deposit

Fifth Third Bank rates and products

Fifth Third Bank offers a whopping six checking accounts, three savings accounts, a money market account (MMA), and multiple CDs. The exact return rate you get may vary by your specific location.

    Checking accounts

You’ve got six checking account options with Fifth Third Bank. Three of them are mainstream-esque: The Fifth Third Momentum Checking, Preferred Checking, and Express Banking. The last three are a bit more niche, created for military members, those with disabilities, and students aged 13 and up.

Notably, as of this writing the Momentum Checking option comes with a $300 bonus after you open a new checking account by March 31, 2026, and make direct deposits totaling $500 or more within 90 days from account opening. Terms apply.

This account is touted to help you achieve greater earnings than a savings account. That said, the MMA appears to offer the same APY as Fifth Third’s interest-bearing savings accounts.

    Online banking

Fifth Third isn’t an online-only bank, but it does offer a decent online banking experience. You can use the website to pay bills, receive paperless statements, set up account alerts, and get account support—the standard stuff.

The Fifth Third platform and customer support

Beyond its website, Fifth Third has a mobile app that consistently receives glowing reviews. It ranks 4.7 on the Google Play Store and 4.8 on the Apple App Store from more than 700,000 ratings.

You can reach Fifth Third by phone at 800-972-3030 from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Eastern Time. You can also chat online 24/7 after logging into your account.

    Is Fifth Third Bank secure?

Fifth Third takes several measures to keep your information safe, including 24/7 monitoring, identity alerts, Zelle fraud identification, various encryptions, a digital certificate, multi-factor identification, and more.

    Fifth Third Bank user reviews

Financial institutions must be virtually sinless to avoid low online ratings. Customers tend to write reviews most often when they feel they’ve been wronged.

All things considered, Fifth Third shows a respectable 3.2 out of 5 stars on Trustpilot as of this writing. Positive reviews highlight knowledgeable and cordial customer service representatives almost exclusively, while the negative reviews lament features like bill pay, autopay, and account fees.

Beyond that, you can find positive reviews on forums like Reddit, as well. Users enjoy the available welcome bonus, decent APY, and overall reputable nature of the bank.
