What We Liked
Here’s what Kate rated highly after trying Green Chef:
- General ordering experience (5 out of 5): Kate said it was super easy to order online. “Green Chef had over 40 different meals I could pick for the week, and I could specify by the type of food I wanted, so it could be low-calorie, gluten-free, Mediterranean, fiber-smart, low-sugar, etc. You can easily skip meals as soon as you log in. The UX of the website was great as well and super easy to navigate,” she said.
- Taste (4.5 out of 5): Kate made Green Chef’s shrimp scampi and shared it with two other people. All three “really liked it” and would eat this meal again in a heartbeat.
- Ingredient freshness and quality (5 out of 5): “Everything tasted so good and fresh,” Kate said. “It didn’t taste pre-packaged, and the presentation of the food was really good as well. The meal we made had great quality ingredients.”
- Meal variety (4 out of 5): Green Chef seems to have variety and different ways to spice up the same kinds of meat, per Kate. “The brand mainly seems to use chicken, shrimp, and salmon for most of their meals. They do have a few beef and steak options, but they are additional charges which may turn people off. I think it has good options!” Kate said.
- Meal plans for special diets (5 out of 5): Kate was pleased with the different types of meal plans offered by Green Chef. “You can pick between dairy-free, gluten-free, keto, GLP-1, and more,” she said. “There are even more than four meal plans! Since you make the meals yourself, you can remove ingredients if you have allergies, but I don’t think you can take them off the meal itself when you order it. Everything is also packaged separately, so ingredients aren’t touching!”
- Sustainability (5 out of 5): Kate would describe Green Chef’s sustainability as “rockstar,” noting: “The brand has a whole page on their website dedicated to their sustainability efforts. Green Chef sources 100% renewable electricity for their production sites and offices. They offset 100% of their delivery emissions and 100% of the plastic in each box and have proudly partnered with the Plastic Bank community for five years. This group has extracted over 5.75M pounds of ocean-bound plastic, with an impact on over 400 communities.”

What We Would Change
Here’s what Kate would improve about Green Chef:
- Value (3 out of 5): While it’s cheaper per serving if you order more meals, that may end up costing you more in the long run. The average price of Green Chef meals is $11.99 to 13.99. It’s not the most expensive on our list, but it’s certainly not the most affordable, either.
- Timing details and ease of understanding instructions (3 out of 5): Kate noted that the instructions were simple and plainly written, but the meal took longer to make than the 35 minutes the recipe said it would take. “This is more meant for people who enjoy cooking or really want to start,” she said.
- Portion size (3 out of 5): Kate said the meal, though meant for two people, would be better for just one person. “As someone who isn’t trying to bulk up, it still wasn’t enough for a second meal when I was done eating it. I think if a couple were really trying to cut down on their food intake, this would be a better choice. If not, I’d recommend their two- person meals for folks eating solo,” she said.

Green Chef may not be ideal for:
