It’s not always easy to hit your protein goals, especially if you’re focused on work more than macros. We like protein powders for their convenience, as you can usually just mix a scoop of powder with water and you’re good to go. But it’s not only about convenience—protein powders, like whey protein isolate, can support muscle growth and recovery, making these drinks an ideal pre-workout beverage.

One product in particular, Kaged Whey Protein Isolate, caught our attention thanks to its high per-serving protein content and digestive enzymes included in its formula. Also, protein isolate tends to be more filtered, which can mean less lactose in the finished product—great for those who may be sensitive. Curious to learn more, we asked our testing team to give it a try. Here’s our Kaged Whey Protein Isolate review.

Why Trust Fortune

Our team of expert testers has tried hundreds of the most popular supplements on the market today, using our comprehensive supplement testing methodology to find the best options for most people.

Our Experience with Kaged Whey Protein Isolate

Kaged Whey Protein Review

Kaged says its whey protein isolate is a “stomach-friendly, fast-digesting protein” that can help build lean muscle and support recovery. One serving contains 25 grams of protein, and the formula also contains ProHydrolase— a proprietary blend of digestive enzymes. The company also says Kaged Whey Protein Isolate is “ultra-filtered for purity” and that it contains no artificial colors or flavors.

Our tester, Pete, tried it. Here’s what he said about his experience.

What We Liked

There were a couple of things that Pete liked about Kaged Whey Protein Isolate.

  • Instructions (5 out of 5): Pete reported that the instructions were clear and straightforward, instructing users to mix one scoop of powder with 5 to 8 ounces of cold water or their favorite beverage. The instructions suggest consuming this mixture before or after workouts.
  • Mixability (5 out of 5): According to Pete, “The product fully dissolved after 60 seconds” and had a “smooth consistency.” He also noted that it didn’t froth when mixed, which he considered a positive.

Two other positives: Pete said he didn’t experience any negative side effects, and that there was no aftertaste.

What We Would Change

Here’s what Pete thought could be improved.

  • Sweetness (5 out of 5): Pete gave this product the highest rating for sweetness, explaining, “This protein powder was a bit too sweet in my opinion. The product uses a blend of both sucralose and stevia to sweeten the protein powder.”
  • Taste (3 out of 5): After trying the beverage, Pete said, “The vanilla flavor is subtle and all I really taste is the sweetness of the product.”

Frequently asked questions

Is Kaged a good protein brand?

When reviewing products, we consider factors such as existing customer reviews, third-party testing, ingredient quality, and more. Kaged offers third-party testing, which we appreciate and generally consider an indicator of quality. In this case, we’ve shared our tester’s experience using Kaged Whey Protein Isolate, but we’re sharing feedback specifically about that product, not the brand as a whole.

Is Kaged FDA-approved?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not approve dietary supplements for safety or efficacy, which means there’s always a chance that ingredients and their amounts may be different from what’s on the label. Because of this, we look for products that have been third-party tested. So, while Kaged Whey Protein Isolate is not FDA-approved, it has been third-party tested.

Is Kaged protein clean?

“Clean” is a marketing term, not a regulatory term with a clear definition. Kaged does claim that its Whey Protein Isolate is “ultra-filtered for purity,” but consumers should always read labels carefully, regardless of marketing claims. In this case, Kaged Whey Protein Isolate doesn’t include artificial colors or flavors, which some people may appreciate.
