The new tablet has a 12-inch screen with a 3×2 aspect ratio and a 1260×1440 display. It weighs 800 grams and is 9.11 millimeters thick, making it the thinnest-ever product with an Intel core chip. The device will be on sale tomorrow for $799.

The theme at the event was that the product will enable users to do all the tasks traditionally associated with tablets — browsing the web, watching movies and using apps — as well as tasks that tablet users still prefer to do on a laptop, such as word processing and other business tasks.

“We want products and technologies that enable people to dream and get stuff done,” said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

The tablet also features a multi-position kickstand, USB 3.0 ports, and speakers that are 45% louder.

Panos Panay, Microsoft’s corporate VP who made the presentation, said he is “confident this is the tablet that will replace the laptop.”
