How much would you pay for a guaranteed parking spot in Boston?
How much would you pay for a guaranteed parking spot in Boston?
  • A parking spot in Boston is up for sale for $750,000. It sold just two years ago for $500,000. The new owner will also have to shell out nearly $900 a month in fees and taxes. PS: No trucks allowed.

The average home in the United States cost $419,200 in the fourth quarter of 2024. A parking spot in Boston could cost you nearly twice that amount.

The spot, located in Beacon Hill’s Brimmer Street Garage, is a rare covered spot that has long been sought after. It’s currently listed for $750,000, but just two years ago, in fact, the spot sold for $500,000—and in 2013, it fetched $300,000.

Paying three-quarters of a million dollars isn’t the end of the expenses for whoever is this eager to park near the original Cheers bar, though. It’s just the beginning. It also carries $400 in monthly HOA fees (never you mind that there’s no home attached), $291 in property taxes and homeowner’s insurance fees of $238 or so (again, despite the lack of a home). So that will put your annual expenses at more than $10,000.

Now, you might think that after shelling out that kind of cash, you could, at the very least, come and go as you please from your high-end parking spot. Nope.

The Brimmer Street Garage is a valet facility (oh! So add tips to those monthly charges as well!) and staff is only on hand from 6:00 a.m. through 10:00 p.m on weekdays and 6:30 a.m. through midnight on weekends. If you want to access your car during other hours, you’ll need to make arrangements ahead of time for the car to be “placed in a designated space accessible at all times.”

Notice we didn’t say anything about your truck? That’s because you can’t park one there.

On the upside, if you’re going to be away, you can allow a friend to use it for no charge. And extra guest parking is available, but limited, for a fee.
